A Look Back at 2018 – by Guy Maddalone
As we get set to wrap up 2018 and welcome a new year, I wanted to reflect on the past 12 months and mention some industry highlights.
Conferences
We always look forward to the two industry conferences we attend each year, as it gives us a chance to connect with partners and friends to discuss our successes and challenges.
In May, we attended the Annual INA Conference in Tucson, Arizona and sponsored the event’s Nanny of the Year Luncheon. It was a pleasure to congratulate Jill Griffin on winning the award.
Earlier this year INA published a statement regarding the importance of nanny tax compliance, stating that nannies and other domestic workers should receive the same benefits and rights that employees in other industries receive. The INA recommended several actions the government should take to ensure domestic employees are properly recognized and protected. Last March, the organization published an extensive study on nanny tax compliance to support its position on this issue.
Last month we attended APNA’s Annual Conference in Atlanta, helping them celebrate their 25-year anniversary. There were terrific speakers and roundtable discussions. The most memorable part of the conference was the creation of the Judi Merlin Scholarship Fund. Judi, a friend and colleague of mine as well as many in attendance, passed away suddenly this year. The scholarship will help send startup agencies to APNA conferences, webinars, and Mastermind groups. By the end of the conference, the fund had more than $15,000 in donations.
Benefits for Agency Partners
This year we also continued to add value to our agency partnerships. As a convenience for our referral partners, we began offering direct deposit service for referral bonuses. No more waiting for the check to arrive in the mail!
We published our 2018 State of the Household Employment report. Our research and analysis from surveys or household employers and nannies will help agencies position themselves against online job site competitors, as well as increase placements, client satisfaction, and referrals.
In addition to the co-branded materials we already offer, we introduced a co-branded online tax calculator that agencies can print or send to families to help them calculate wages and overtime. It’s just another way for you to be an invaluable resource for your clients.
Thank You
This time of year can be hectic for many of us, both personally and professionally, so I wanted to be sure to take a moment to say thank you. I’m grateful for the trust you have in GTM and for allowing us to be a part of the value you provide to your families. We value your input and feedback and appreciate your referrals. I wish you all a happy and safe holiday season and best wishes for a successful 2019.
