A new Arizona paid sick leave law for household employees (and all employees) begins July 1, 2017. The law requires all employers to provide paid and protected sick leave to all employees, including part-time, temporary, and seasonal employees.
Employers must begin complying with the Chicago Sick Leave Ordinance on July 1, 2017. The Ordinance applies to all employers in Chicago and Cook County, IL, and explicitly provides that it applies to domestic workers.
You may have heard the term “domestic workers’ bill of rights” with regard to wage and labor laws surrounding nannies and other household employees. But what exactly does that term mean and how did these laws come about?
As part of the state’s Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights legislation, California Wage Order 15, which had previously exempted personal attendants from overtime pay, was amended to remove this exemption and now requires personal attendants be paid overtime compensation at one and one-half times the employees’ regular rate of pay.
The Montgomery County Sick Leave law requires employers with one or more employees in the Maryland county to provide paid sick and safe leave to covered employees, including domestic workers.
