  • Ensure that your domestic worker can legally work in the U.S.
  • Find out if any state domestic workers’ rights laws apply to your situation.
  • Obtain household employer tax IDs (federal and state)
  • File a New Hire Report with your state.
  • Calculate employee tax withholdings each pay period.
  • Track all federal and state employer taxes.
  • Manage weekly time cards, prepare, and distribute pay stubs.
  • File quarterly state employment tax returns and remit state tax dollars (employee withholdings as well as state employer taxes).
  • File federal 1040-ES quarterly and remit federal taxes (employee withholdings as well as federal employer taxes).
  • Prepare and distribute Form W-2 annually to your employee(s).
  • Prepare and file all required year-end forms with the state and SSA.
  • Prepare Schedule H (Form 1040) to file with federal income tax return.
  • Monitor tax and labor laws for changes.
  • Check to see if you qualify for the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit.
