Following up on information we reported in December, Washington D.C. employers, including household employers and temporary staffing agencies, must comply with a new amendment to the Washington D.C. Wage Theft Prevention Act of 2014.
For household employers, Washington DC pay rate notices – the most relevant and important piece of this law – took effect this week: all employees must be provided a written pay rate notice. The notice must be in English and in the employee’s primary language (if applicable), and must contain the following information:
- The name of the employer;
- The physical address of the employer (and a mailing address, if different);
- The telephone number of the employer;
- The employee’s rate of pay and overtime rate of pay;
- The employee’s regular payday
Employers must provide this notice to all newly hired employees, as well as provide amended notices to existing employees whenever their pay rate or any of the above information changes. Both employer and employee must sign all notices, and employers must retain proof of compliance by keeping copies of the signed notices.
