ST. PETERSBURG, FL – September 22, 2023 – In recognition of his more than 30 years of contributions and support of the nanny and household staffing industries, GTM Payroll Services Founder and CEO Guy Maddalone was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Premier Nanny Agencies (APNA) at its annual conference.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to APNA for recognizing me with this award,” Maddalone said. “This journey wouldn’t have been possible without my mother, a registered nurse, who instilled in me the value of persistence and perseverance, and my father, who ran a construction company and taught me about hard work and tenacity.”
In 1985, while still a college student, Guy started his first business, a home health care referral registry, with his mother.
Guy launched GTM Payroll Services in 1991, the first in the industry to provide payroll and tax administration for families with household help.
After a few highly publicized nanny tax evasion stories and an IRS tax code change, the business began to flourish serving families coast to coast.
Over the years, Guy expanded GTM to serve multiple needs for household employers facing increasingly complex compliance regulations as well as a competitive labor market for in-home childcare.
“We want to be that trusted guide for families as they navigate labor laws and household employment compliance, so they do things the right way and not get tripped up,” Maddalone said. “At the same time, we want to establish professional work environments for household employees, so they receive the same benefits and protections as those in the traditional workforce.”
GTM added insurance services – like workers’ compensation insurance, which is required for many household employers – employee benefits like health insurance so families could attract top talent to their positions, and human resources consulting for families needing help with employee advice and labor law compliance.
“This all wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our GTMers,” Maddalone said. “While we’ve expanded our team to more than 100 employees, they all have a singular focus to deliver exceptional client experiences.”
While his business grew – landing on the INC 5000 list eight times as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. – Guy continued his heavy involvement in the household employment industry.
“Guy’s longevity, success, and achievements are inspiring to us all who have known him and watched him grow his multiple businesses from infancy,” Aunt Ann’s In-House Staffing Owner Denise Collins said. “Guy has always been generous with this time, offering his skills and abilities to the household staffing industry without requiring anything in return.”
He was a founding member of APNA and served on its board as treasurer for more than 10 years.
For agencies, Guy created the first-ever online agency management software platform to automate recruitment, applicant tracking, placements, and many other agency back-office tasks.
Over the decades, he has also been a mentor to many nanny agency owners, sharing his knowledge and expertise and providing professional development opportunities for agency owners and their staff as well as caregivers pursuing their chosen careers.
He has written two books, How to Hire a Nanny, which is now in its third edition, and How to Hire a Caregiver for Your Senior. They have become essential references for families hiring household help and established Guy as the top authority on household employment in the country.
Guy was praised by his peers for sharing his knowledge and providing support to the household staffing industry.
