Show about the hazards of hiring household help features critical advice for families from nation’s domestic employment expert
CLIFTON PARK, NY – February 3, 2018 – GTM Payroll Services Founder and CEO Guy Maddalone, considered the nation’s domestic employment expert, joined the GutwiZdom radio program to discuss the rules and regulations a family needs to consider when hiring and employing a nanny, senior caregiver, housekeeper, or other domestic employees.

Paying domestic employees “under the table” is just one way that can lead to fines and penalties for non-compliance with domestic employment rules. Families need to understand workers’ compensation insurance, Domestic Workers’ Bills of Rights, overtime pay, minimum wage, unemployment, and much more. However, there are a number of tax breaks a family can take advantage of to reduce their tax obligations as well as benefits to the employee for being paid legally.
Guy also shared his “wiZdoms” with hosts Deidre Koppelman and Jonathan Gassman (JG). They included:

- Setting clear guidelines for hours and schedule
- Laying out the household rules in a work agreement
- Understanding the risks of hiring an undocumented worker
- Making sure you have the proper insurance in case your employee is hurt on the job (your homeowner’s insurance may not cover it)
