It requires that all employers in Massachusetts &#8211; including household employers &#8211; provide 40 hours of sick leave to employees annually. This new requirement, which is a result of the passage of the \u201cEarned Sick Time for Employees\u201d ballot question in the most recent general election, will make Massachusetts one of three states (along with <a title=\"California Paid Sick Leave Law\" href=\"\/household\/california-paid-sick-leave-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">California<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctdol.state.ct.us\/wgwkstnd\/sickleave.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Connecticut<\/a>) to require sick leave on a statewide level.<\/p>\n<h2>Does this apply to household employers?<\/h2>\n<p>As far as <em>paid<\/em> sick leave, the new law will not likely affect household employers. Employers with ten or fewer employees (including temporary and part-time workers) will be required to provide sick leave but may provide it on an unpaid basis.
