{"id":24115,"date":"2020-07-06T16:03:38","date_gmt":"2020-07-06T20:03:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gtm.com\/household\/?p=24115"},"modified":"2020-07-06T16:03:49","modified_gmt":"2020-07-06T20:03:49","slug":"determine-ffcra-eligibility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gtm.com\/household\/determine-ffcra-eligibility\/","title":{"rendered":"New Tool Helps Employees Determine Their Eligibility for FFCRA Paid Leave"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_24116\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24116\" class=\"size-large wp-image-24116\" src=\"https:\/\/gtm.com\/household\/wp-content\/uploads\/determine-ffcra-eligibility-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"determine ffcra eligibility\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gtm.com\/household\/wp-content\/uploads\/determine-ffcra-eligibility-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gtm.com\/household\/wp-content\/uploads\/determine-ffcra-eligibility-980x653.jpg 980w, https:\/\/gtm.com\/household\/wp-content\/uploads\/determine-ffcra-eligibility-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-24116\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A new online tool from the U.S. Department of Labor can help household employees determine whether they qualify for paid leave under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has created an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/agencies\/whd\/ffcra\/benefits-eligibility-webtool\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online tool<\/a> to help workers determine whether they qualify for paid leave under the <a href=\"https:\/\/gtm.com\/household\/families-first-coronavirus-response-act\/\">Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Household employees like nannies, housekeepers, and senior caregivers may be eligible for paid leave under FFCRA under certain pandemic-related reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Up to two weeks of sick leave (full pay for self, 2\/3 pay for family care) for illness, quarantine, or school\/daycare closures<\/li>\n<li>Up to 12 weeks of Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave for school\/daycare closures (10 days unpaid and then up to 10 weeks at 2\/3 pay)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/agencies\/whd\/ffcra\/benefits-eligibility-webtool\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tool poses questions<\/a> to help employees assess whether their employers are subject to the paid leave provisions of the FFCRA.<\/p>\n<p>First, the employee will choose their employer&#8217;s size and type. Household workers would choose private-sector employer with fewer than 500 employees.<\/p>\n<p>Next, they would choose whether they:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have coronavirus symptoms or have been advised or ordered to quarantine\/isolate<\/li>\n<li>need to care for someone who is subject to quarantine or isolation, or care for their child whose school or place of care is closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic<\/li>\n<li>have been furloughed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each of those options has additional questions to answer before determining whether the worker qualifies for FFCRA paid sick leave or expanded family and medical leave.<\/p>\n<p>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/agencies\/whd\/ffcra\/benefits-eligibility-webtool\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Determining Your FFCRA Eligibility tool<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A similar tool is being developed for employers.<\/p>\n<p>To help cover the costs of mandated leave, <a href=\"https:\/\/gtm.com\/household\/ffcra-tax-credits\/\">FFCRA provides employers two refundable payroll tax credits<\/a> that are designed to immediately and fully reimburse them.
