- <\/strong>by Guy Maddalone<\/em><\/p> If you\u2019re finding that it is a struggle to hire employees, you are not alone. Many businesses around the country are facing tough challenges with recruiting new hires, and GTM is among them. Several of our agency partners have also expressed concern with their ability to hire candidates to fill the demand for positions.<\/p> Unfortunately, there isn\u2019t an easy solution to this issue. Improving your recruiting efforts may take some outside-the-box thinking. With that in mind, I asked GTM\u2019s marketing and HR teams, as well as Melissa Schoonmaker, director of A New England Nanny, to put together some tips for you to help you get more candidates to find your agency and apply for positions.<\/p> Referrals<\/strong><\/p> Hopefully you regularly ask your families to refer other families to your agency. But you should also be asking your nannies to refer other nannies to apply for your open positions. Consider offering an incentive, or even just a nice \u201cthank you,\u201d to the nannies that provide a referral. You can also extend a similar incentive to your families \u2013 they may know of potential candidates as well. And be sure to ask for referrals more than once!<\/p> Have a Strong Online Presence<\/strong><\/p> Online is where it is at for finding job applicants, and you need to have your agency\u2019s job openings easily found in as many places as possible. A recent survey conducted by GTM Payroll Services showed that more than half of the nannies that use an agency found that agency online. When a nanny is searching for a job, you want your agency to be on the first page of their results. Proactively recruit from online job boards like Indeed, UrbanSitter, Nanny Lane, and Sittercity, and make sure you are posting your open positions on your social media channels.<\/p> Join Relevant Facebook Groups<\/strong><\/p> There are regional babysitting and mom-related groups on Facebook that you can join to let them know you have open positions. You can reach babysitters looking for part-time work, as well as stay-at-home moms who may be looking for extra income while their children are in school.<\/p> Contact Inactive Nannies<\/strong><\/p> Nannies who worked with your agency previously may be interested in coming back. Consider sending an email letting them know that there are jobs available, where they are and what they pay. Also remind them of the benefits they get from working with your agency.<\/p> Emphasize the Benefits of Using an Agency and Legal Pay<\/strong><\/p> Our recent survey also asked nannies what they like about using an agency to find a job. The top reasons were:<\/p> Be sure to emphasize these things when recruiting candidates on your website, in social media, and in conversations you have with candidates. Our survey also showed that the overwhelming reason nannies didn\u2019t accept a job they found on an online job board is that they were not happy with the pay. When recruiting candidates, be sure to point out that you can offer them higher paying jobs.<\/p> Our survey showed the top quality that nannies want in a family is that they are a trustworthy, ethical employer. Therefore, potential candidates need to know that being paid by the books is important to your agency and is either a requirement of your families or is highly encouraged. Forty-six percent of the nannies surveyed said they would not take a job if it wasn\u2019t on the books.<\/p> Participate in Career Fairs<\/strong><\/p> Whether in-person or virtual, career fairs are a way for agencies to engage with job seekers. Look for career fairs from your local chamber of commerce, newspaper and media organizations, or colleges and universities.<\/p> College job boards can also be a good source of candidates, especially for part-time positions. You might find some candidates by looking up potential applicants from the student alumni, and you can ask the college about virtual or in-person job fairs that you could attend to boost your recruiting efforts.<\/p> Solicit Reviews from Happy Employees <\/strong><\/p> If you\u2019re using Indeed or other job boards, have some of your best nannies leave a review that shows why they like working for your agency. Nannies looking for a position may be more likely to apply if they see that other nannies have been happy with you.<\/p> Nannies can also leave reviews for your agency on Google or Bing, which many applicants will see when looking for jobs with nanny agencies, so ask your top performers to leave a review that helps get new candidates in the door.<\/p> You can also post the reviews as testimonials on your website. Also consider using video \u2013 have a happy nanny record a quick video explaining why your agency is a great place to work, then post it on your website and send it out on your social media channels to spread the word.<\/p> Always Follow Up with Applicants<\/strong><\/p> Another question in our survey asked why a nanny didn\u2019t accept a job from an agency. While the majority said it was because they found a job on their own, nine percent said they were never contacted by the agency after applying. Make sure you follow up with all applicants, so you don\u2019t lose a potentially qualified candidate.<\/p>
