Most employers in Westchester County, New York will need to\u00a0provide\u00a0paid or unpaid sick leave\u00a0to covered employees. Here are the highlights:<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><b>Which Employers Are Covered?<\/b><\/td>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">Generally all employers.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><b>Which Employees Are Covered?<\/b><\/td>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">Generally, employees employed in Westchester County for more than\u00a0<b>80 hours<\/b>\u00a0in a calendar year.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><b>Must an Employer Compensate Leave?<\/b><\/td>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">Yes. Employers with <strong>five<\/strong><b>\u00a0or more employees<\/b>\u00a0generally must provide\u00a0<b>paid<\/b>\u00a0sick leave compensated at the employee\u2019s normal hourly rate. Employers with\u00a0<b>fewer than five employees<\/b>\u00a0must provide\u00a0<b>unpaid<\/b>\u00a0sick leave.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><b>How Much Leave May an Employee Accrue and Use?<\/b><\/td>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><b>40 hours<\/b>\u00a0a year.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><b>How Does an Employee Accrue Leave?<\/b><\/td>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">Employees generally accrue a minimum of <strong>one<\/strong><b>\u00a0hour<\/b>\u00a0of sick leave for every\u00a0<b>30 hours\u00a0<\/b>worked.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><b>Which Life Events Qualify for Leave?<\/b><\/td>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">In general, sick leave may be used for an employee\u2019s or family member\u2019s mental or physical illness, injury, health condition, or preventive medical care.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"1\" align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><b>Are Employers Required to Post or Provide Employees with Notices Regarding the Law?<\/b><\/td>\n<td colspan=\"1\" align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">Yes.
