{"id":4036,"date":"2016-09-28T10:46:59","date_gmt":"2016-09-28T14:46:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gtm.com\/business\/?p=4036"},"modified":"2024-08-30T11:15:27","modified_gmt":"2024-08-30T15:15:27","slug":"new-form-9-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gtm.com\/business\/new-form-9-coming\/","title":{"rendered":"New Form I-9 is Coming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4037\" src=\"https:\/\/gtm.com\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/office-687366_1280.jpg\" alt=\"new form i-9 is coming\" width=\"1280\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gtm.com\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/office-687366_1280.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/gtm.com\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/office-687366_1280-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gtm.com\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/office-687366_1280-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gtm.com\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/office-687366_1280-1080x717.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/>The\u00a0U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.natlawreview.com\/article\/uscis-announces-fall-2016-issuance-new-form-i-9-version-new-version-will-be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced that the new Form I-9 is coming<\/a> and will be available by November 22, 2016. They have advised that employers can continue to use the current form until January 21, 2017. After that date, the current form will no longer be valid and all employers must be using the new form.\u00a0The new form will expire on August 31, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The new form will include a &#8220;smart&#8221; version of the form that can be completed online. Forms will not be able to be sumbitted online, however &#8211; they must still be printed and signed and sent to the USCIS, and then filed appropriately. But the electronic form will be more user-friendly with\u00a0features like drop-down menus to assist with\u00a0completion of the form, and validation safeguards to ensure the correct number of digits are being used for things like Social Security numbers and expiration dates.<\/p>\n<p>The changes to the form are also expected to aid employers in eliminating costly errors, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lawlogix.com\/increasing-cost-form-i9-non-compliance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">penalties for which are increasing<\/a>.
