In response, many employers are implementing hybrid workplace models in their business locations.<\/p>\n<h3>What Is a Hybrid Model?<\/h3>\n<p>A hybrid workplace is a flexible model specifically designed to support a workforce of both onsite and remote employees. A thoughtful hybrid workplace approach combines the best aspects of an organization\u2019s on-site and remote workplaces.<\/p>\n<p>A practical hybrid model may be a combination of several arrangements, including the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Flex remote:<\/strong> Employees are on-site on set days.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Core hours:<\/strong> Employees are available during designated times<\/li>\n<li><strong>Custom scheduling:<\/strong> Employees request a specific hybrid work schedule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Is Hybrid the Future?<\/h3>\n<p>Consider the following findings from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercer.us\/events\/webcasts\/shifting-values-and-the-hybrid-workplace.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mercer survey<\/a> of U.S. employers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>83 percent are considering flexible work arrangements more than they did prior to the pandemic.<\/li>\n<li>73 percent plan to implement a hybrid work environment.<\/li>\n<li>42 percent plan to focus employee training on leading and working in a virtual or blended environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hybrid workplace models come with both advantages (e.g., wider talent pools and increased employee productivity) and challenges (e.g., difficulty communicating and lack of real-time collaboration). Also, hybrid workplaces can look very different based on an organization\u2019s priority of the following factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Talent access<\/li>\n<li>Team productivity<\/li>\n<li>Individual productivity<\/li>\n<li>Real estate costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>5 Hybrid Workplace Strategies<\/h3>\n<p>Most organizations have standards in place for on-site employees and now need to adapt to a mirroring set of standards for those working remotely. To best accommodate a distributed workplace, consider the following five tips:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Formalize hybrid work processes and set clear expectations.<\/li>\n<li>Be transparent about remote and hybrid work expectations and decisions.<\/li>\n<li>Plan meetings to be friendly to all employees.<\/li>\n<li>Consider how project management and communication channels can foster companywide collaboration.<\/li>\n<li>Ask for and listen to feedback from employees.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The implementation of hybrid workplace models will vary by organization.
